I've decided to hold off on writing that review for now due to this response you've given us. Personally, I would love to see an option to disable tech trading, or to be able to lock races into teams so there can be guaranteed multi-way battles. and to be able to disable certain victory types as well so people can focus on the type they enjoy most. It would honestly go a long way for a lot of people to be able to turn off random events completely, and be able to customize certain victory types such as adding tech victories, influence victory (controlling X% of all planets in the galaxy), diplomacy victories, alliance victories, etc. Some of us like to take their time and experience different aspects of a 4x game. Not everyone wants to play like a perfect machine, or play against a perfect machine. The random wormholes appearing are also of great frustration as no matter what, it just seems to throw these things at you like a gigantic middle finger, shoving another faction in your face. They also happen way to frequently, even on the lowest setting, giving players very little breathing room. The only real complaints I have right now is how overkill the AI is, and how the random events (crystals/pirates) just seem to be nothing but ways to shut down the player rather than adding flavor or spice to the game. I mean, it is rather impressive how good this game looks and has run so far. I was going to write a review not recommending this game. Meanwhile I will be continuing to help folks who have any technical issues, and I'll be addressing bug reports as they come in. So this issue is essentially going to be my early focus over the coming week. What I want is for the AI to bring a credible threat to bear against you - one capable of winning - but not something so overwhelming that it can ruin your experience. So these are issues that are on my mind, and we're going to see some changes surrounding this behavior. I also think it can cause some performance problems if the AI tries to use an unnecessarily large invasion fleet. I think this behavior can be an unpleasant suprise for some players. Generally they are executing a "sneak attack" plan to try and catch you unprepared. I also know that the AI is very effective at building fleets and running its economy and can bring in very large fleets unexpectedly. If you seek these treaties then they will generally be effective at protecting you from aggressive AIs, although treachery remains a threat if you let your guard down. One way I already have responded to it is by increasing the importance of Non-Aggression Pacts. I want you to know that I have received this feedback and intend to respond to it. One of the more common criticisms is that non-Aggressive strategies are less viable in StarDrive 2 than strategies which encourage a more militaristic style of play. This indicates to me that we generally have a good core design, and so when I'm looking at what my support priorities will be over the coming weeks, I really want to target the areas where people are unhappy. Generally the major modules of this game - players have given positive feedback on their functionalty and implementation. We're getting positive feedback about our ship design system, space battles, research, diplomacy, story events, and more. We're still diagnosing a few incompatibility issues that exist for a smaller number of users - if you are having any technical issues, please bear with me as I try to narrow down the possible causes so that we can address them.įrom a gameplay standpoint, it looks like approximately 70% of players who left reviews have recommended our game on Steam. From a technical standpoint, our release build was well-tested and for the most part I think people have been having a smooth time being able to access what we have on offer. So far the reception for StarDrive 2 has been generally quite positive. If this is the greatest issue you've found with the game so far and truly feel it requires a request at this stage because it's "quite annoying", I am flabbergasted. This post is meant to be a "state of the union" address to talk about StarDrive 2 - where it is today and, with the community's feedback, where it will be tomorrow.įirst some words on our launch and the current state of the game. The amount of management required to run an empire (well) that can research a repeat category in half a dozen turns must surely be more annoying than having to press F1 and do a mouse-click every six turns?
